grateful dead blues for allah Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas bien le Grateful Dead, cet album est une très bonne première approche du groupe. Sorti en 1975, cet album est à l'image de la «renaissance» du groupe. Abouti musicalement, il est aussi un peu plus funky que ce que le Dead avait proposé jusqu'à présent.
On commence avec le premier enchaînement de l'album «Help/Slipknot!/Franklin's». Personnellement, c'est cette chanson qui m'a définitivement le pied à l'étrier. La première partie est très funky car le bassiste du groupe, Phil Lesh, est le leader de ce morceau. Reconnu pour être le petit grain de folie du groupe, Lesh propose une ligne de basse très riche. «Slipknot!» est indissociable de cet enchaînement que vous retrouvez sur toutes les versions live.
Plus ou moins hallucinant, il permet au groupe de pouvoir s'adonner à leur sport favori, emmener relativement loin tout leur auditoire avant de les faire atterrir sur une chanson on ne peut plus classique, «Franklin's Tower». Puis vient le magnifique «King Solomon's marbles». Une habile combinaison entre les rythmes du duo d'enfer Hart-Kreutzmann et les envolées lyriques du toujours inspiré Jerry Garcia. Cette chanson n'a pas été joué très souvent, mais la référence absolue en ce qui concerne cette version est le phénoménal «One from the Vault».
S'ensuit une chanson du guitariste rythmique, Bob Weir. Dans la lignée des compositions de Weir (cf ses albums solo), très enjouée, très funky, avec une ligne de saxo qui rajoute le petit plus «commercial». Viennent ensuite deux chansons très douces et très belles. «Crazy fingers» interprétée par Jerry Garcia. En descente de jam ou de space, cette chanson vous pose un homme et lui permet de souffler.
«Sage and Spirit», chanson instrumentale est également d'une douceur rare. On arrive enfin sur la dernière chanson, ou tout du moins ce qui est censé l'être. Tout dépend de votre version de l'album. Les premiers tirages incluent les trois dernières chansons en une. Les exemplaires les plus récents font la différence entre les trois morceaux en indexant ceux-ci.
«Blues for Allah» est une merveille de ce que le Dead est capable de produire musicalement. Tout y est. On commence par une chanson chantée avant que les musiciens ne vous emmènent à travers tous les éléments qui composent notre univers. On descend tout d'abord vers les enfers, pour partir ensuite dans l'océan avant de s'envoler dans l'espace et d'atterrir en douceur tel une feuille qui tombe dès les jours d'automne arrivés.
Un très bon album que les personnes désirant connaître le Grateful Dead peuvent acheter les yeux fermés. Cet album est l'un des plus abordables pour le «grand public», mais, pour avoir la pleine mesure de cet album, il vous faut absolument vous procurer le live «One from the vault» qui reprend la majorité des chansons de «Blues for Allah» version concert et je peux vous assurer que la version de «Blues for Allah» est gigantesque, merveilleuse, incroyable, formidable, les mots manquent pour décrire cette chanson qui est surréaliste et de surcroît montre l'étendue des capacités du groupe en concert.
