Key Largo in downtown Portland has about a 200 person capacity, so the setting was intimate, and Moore and More seemed happy to experiment on this night. Starting off the first set was Common Ground" which was followed by "Magnolia Triangle" (which seems to be getting better with every show.) Next came a tune that sounded like some sort of South African standard (a member of the audience sitting next to me recognized the tune as one that the band Zero plays--he thought it was called "Favela".) Next came an upbeat "Witch Doctor" followed by a jam that Skerik started off by looping some sax lines together, but by the end of the song, it was sounding like "Nalgas". Next, Stanton invited his friend Joe Cunningham who lives in Portland and who is the saxophonist in a band called Jive Talkin' Robots, for "Tchfunkta" and "Blues for Ben" to end the set. After a short set break, Moore and More started the set with a spacey improv jam that turned into "Boogaloo Boogie". The band was having fun at this point and Charlie started playing one of his favorite covers, a tune by Johnny 'Guitar' Watson called "It's a Real Mutha for 'Ya" with Charlie singing a verse or two. Next came an extended "Angel Nemali" followed by an adventurous "Farmstead Antiques". As the band felt like it was time for more improv, they broke into James Brown's "Cold Sweat" which had people movin'. Stanton called his friend Joe Cunningham out for the last tune of the set "Tchfunkta". The boys decided to do an encore to the delight of the audience and they broke out a long, slow, and funky "Powerhouse" by Chester Thompson. To close the encore, the Moore and More played a short clip of what sounded like a George Gershwin tune. All said and done, another extremely satisfying show and it is obvious the band is having fun by including more and more (no pun intended) improvisational parts and freshly played songs to their set. set 1 Common Ground Magnolia Triangle Favela (?)
