Press Release :
After their critically acclaimed debut album "Kind Soul", The Stance Brothers return with a new 7-inch titled "Pick 'n' Roll" / "Youth Groove".

The sound is now perhaps a bit more soulful than with the previous releases and their new horn section adds another dimension to their already unique sound. The A-side "Pick 'n' Roll" is a soulful and sunny groover with a catchy horn riff, heavy percussion and "Tighten Up" influenced bass line. B-side "Youth Groove" is a funkier piece that's based on a dialogue between the guitar and the sax. The horn arrangements on the background might bring to mind the legendary T.S.U. Toronadoes.

The Stance Brothers is led by Teppo "Teddy Rok" Mäkynen. Teddy has gained fame both as a producer and an outstanding drummer. Teddy is the drummer of The Five Corners Quintet and its leader on stage, to name one of Teddy's jazz groups. Finnish jazz press has selected him several times as the "drummer of the year" and he has been awarded on many occasions. His debut album "Universal Four" by the Teddy Rok Seven received enthusiastic reviews and showed Teddys skills as a composer, arranger and producer. "Universal Four" also won the Jazz Record of the Year -award in Finland. "With one foot in the past and the other firmly placed on the kick drum, this new project from drummer/producer Teddy Rok looks like it has all the hallmarks of another classic" 4 out of 5 DJ Magazine on The Stance Brothers first single "Steve McQueen".

Press Release :
What do you call a project featuring modern Jazz/Fusion/Jam's most ubiquitous guitarist, Roots Reggae music's most prolific drummer, and three players from the biggest American Reggae band in the world?

Rockamovya brings together long time Jazz-heavyweight, Grammy nominated Will Bernard (Motherbug, Stanton Moore trio, Dr. Lonnie Smith), the incomparable Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace (Burning Spear, The Abyssinians, the cult film classic "Rockers") and Ryan Newman (bass), Marcus Urani (organ/keys/piano) and Harrison Stafford (rhythm guitar/ vocals) of the internationally acclaimed Cali-based Reggae-Fusion group Groundation for what will surely be a genre-defying classic of an album.

Rockamovya is already generating a strong buzz within the more traditional music industry, as well as the ever-growing conscious music community. The expansive and altogether new sound Rockamovya emits is due in large part to the inter-generational links the album has created. Whether its Horsemouth's 1960's era steppers rhythms, Bernard's 1970's inspired jazz-funk licks, or the wholly unique 21st century roots sound of Groundation, Rockamovya reaches across demographics and genres to entice and enthral listeners of any and every tribe.

Latin/Funk Orchestra Grupo Fantasma Serves Up ‘Sonidos Gold’ For June 17th Release

Dynamic Funksters Collaborate With Everyone From Prince To Spoon To Maceo Parker

Praised as "one of the sickest live bands ever" by Philadelphia Weekly, Grupo Fantasma infuses traditional Latin styles with a modern twist on their new album, 'Sonidos Gold,' set for release June 17th on Aire Sol Records/High Wire Music. From the epic and inspiring entrance of "El Sabio Soy Yo" to the dreamy and delicate closure of "Perso Fra i Mesquites," Grupo Fantasma's third studio album provides a cohesive collection of genre-defying songs.

"It's the definitive Grupo Fantasma album, the one we've wanted to make since the beginning," declares Adrian Quesada, one of the band's guitarists, co-founders and head producer. "The sound is organic, live, while sonically it's big and roomy with psychedelic and cinematic undertones." Guest performances on the album include legendary saxophonist Maceo Parker on "Gimme Some," and Fania All-Stars' pianist and arranger Larry Harlow alongside trombonist Greg Boyer (Prince, Parliament Funkadelic) on "Rumba y Guaganco."

Formed in 2000, Grupo Fantasma is an 11-piece orchestra from Austin, Texas, who tour exhaustively and have garnered high esteem with fans and critics nationwide for their musicianship, stage presence and unique sound. Austin Chronicle music critic Jim Caligiuri clamors: "The only other band I've seen get that kind of audience reaction was the Ramones…This group of enthusiastic youngsters has grown into a monstrous and masterful ensemble."

So diverse are the musical renderings of Grupo Fantasma that their résumé features an appearance on PBS' "Austin City Limits" in addition to gigs backing both indie-rockers Spoon and pop icon Prince. The band's relationship with Prince began with a two-month residency at his Las Vegas nightclub 3121 (guest appearances included Marc Anthony, Mary J. Blige and will.i.am) and evolved into a series of backing roles at events such as the CBS Superbowl Bash in South Beach and the ALMA Awards. Upcoming performances scheduled for Grupo Fantasma include the New Orleans Jazz Fest, Bonaroo and Montreal Jazz Fest, amongst many other shows nationwide.

Press Release :
UK funk maestros The New Mastersounds return from a year of intensive touring in the USA to deliver their sixth album, Plug & Play, featuring vocalist Dionne Charles. What you get: their trademark infectious energetic grooves, warm vintage production by guitarist Eddie Roberts, and successful forays into sub-genres like psychedelic afro-funk, CTI-era jazz-funk, souljazz and classic soul. Though the NMS wear their musical roots on their sleeve, this ain't no retro copycat band: each track sounds unmistakably like The New Mastersounds. And in Dionne Charles they have found a vocalist who can do justice to the phenomenal soulfulness of the music.

"Their best set yet" Pete Isaac (Jelly Jazz)
"In one word: CLASS!" Niccolo Pozzoli (Record Kicks, Milan)
"Love it!" Jeff Krasno (Velour Records USA)
"This (King Comforter) drips with soul, down-home style. The NMS have lost none of their knack for hitting you where is hurts:- in a good way! Superb!" (The Craig Charles Funk And Soul Show, BBC 6Music)

Press Release :
The fifty ninth release on Pressure Sounds is due out on the 16th of June 2008.

'Every Mouth Must Be Fed' takes its name from an I Roy track featured on the set and one that neatly sums up the ethos behind Micron Records Limited. Their set up, based on Retirement Road in Kingston, Jamaica, gave countless producers and artists a creative opening for their work that otherwise would have been denied to them.

'Conference at Waterhouse… your destination King Tubby's studio' intones Jah Stitch as the album opens with his tougher than tough version to the 'Satta Dread' rhythm followed by some superb vocals from Junior Byles & Joe Higgs, a selection of top talk from deejays U Roy & I Roy, horns led instrumentals from Tommy McCook & Bobby Ellis and some superlative Tubby's mixes that are not only rare but show the dub master at his very best.
As usual Pressure Sounds have compiled tracks that offer music fans that little bit extra and have again unearthed some overlooked gems and rare records that will touch your soul. Was there ever a better Jamaican singer than Junior Byles? He's up there with the best of them and 'Lorna Banana' and his interpretation of 'Ain't Too Proud To Beg' are amongst his finest recordings… the highly sought after 'Our Rights' from The Defenders is text book Kingston style vocal harmony with classical sufferers lyrics… I Roy should need little in the way of introduction and is probably the most consistent deejay that Jamaica ever produced.

The production throughout is clean and crisp with Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Bunny 'Striker' Lee and the not quite so well known Pete Weston at the helm. Pete was one of the trio of musical entrepreneurs that ran the label. Perhaps Micron is not as instantly recognisable as many of the more celebrated Jamaican labels but any half ways decent reggae collection will be bound to include more than a couple of Micron records. 'Every Mouth Must Be Fed' highlights their work and puts the focus on an organisation that really was important both as a label and as a business.

This crackling Pressure Sounds compilation showcases totally re-mastered tracks that present the music at its best and that also comes packed with the usual excellent graphics, photographs, extensive liner notes and in-depth interviews with Pete Weston.

Press Release :
Original Boardwalk Style, a live album from Trey Anastasio and the Undectet, will be released on June 10th on Trey's own Rubber Jungle Records. Proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit the Seven Below Arts Initiative, established by Trey in 2006 to foster artistic development and support arts education in the state of Vermont.

The album was recorded at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, NJ on December 30th and 31st of 2006, coming at the end of the band's holiday tour. The two shows marked the culmination of a long year of touring and growth as what began as a six-piece sextet in the beginning of the year had progressed into a full-force eleven member Undectet.

The raw energy of a well-oiled band at the top of its game permeated the set as the composer/vocalist/guitarist led The Undectet - comprised of Tony Hall (bass, vocals), Ray Paczkowski (keyboards), Jeff Sipe (drums), Christina Durfee (vocals, synthesizer), Jennifer Hartswick (vocals, trumpet), Peter Apfelbaum (saxophone, flute), Russell Remington (saxophone, flute), Jeff Cressman (trombone), Dave Grippo (saxophone) and Cyro Baptista (percussion) - through electrifying big band arrangements of his classic songs, replete with big horns and dazzling Brazilian percussive stylings.

Original Boardwalk Style features over 75 minutes of music, remixed from the multitrack masters by Trey and Ben Collette at Rubber Jungle Studios and mastered by Fred Kevorkian at Kevorkian Mastering. In addition to CD and digital download formats, the album will be available as a double-gatefold, audiophile grade 180-gram LP Vinyl pressing.

The album is now available for pre-order as CD and Vinyl Trey's online store as well as digital audio downloads (in both MP3 and FLAC formats) at LivePhish.com. All pre-orders will automatically be entered to win a professionally printed photo - signed by Trey and esteemed photographer Jeff Kravitz - of the band on stage at the House of Blues. Color corrected by Jennifer Brown, it will be framed in barn board crafted by Lars Fisk, a creative contributor to The Barn's Artist-in-Residence program. Ten runners-up will receive autographed copies of the vinyl.

Press Release :
Around the World with Señor Coconut

Señor Coconut, the man of a thousand aliases, has struck again and amazed everyone once more. Following "El Baile Alemán" (dedicated to the German Electro pioneers Kraftwerk), "Fiesta Songs" (a joyful collection of popular songs including "Smooth Operator", "Beat It", "Smoke on the Water") and "Yellow Fever" (a tribute to his Japanese fellow musicians of the Yellow Magic Orchestra) here comes his fourth trick, which the musical knight of the Order of the Coconut has worked on for almost a year in real and virtual studios. "Around the World" would actually be a simple pop album if it was not for el Señor, alias Atom™: he is just not interested in the easy route! If you are going to cover the pearls of international pop, you really have to contribute a powerful idea of your own. And you know you’ve made it when the musicians you are covering themselves take part in the recording, as the three members of the Yellow Magic Orchestra, Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi and Oscar and Grammy winner Ryuichi Sakamoto, did on the "Yellow Fever" album, and as Stephan Remmler, the legendary head of the band Trio, did on this occasion. Which brings us to the heart of the matter: for "Around the World", Señor Coconut has again conjured "Electrolatino" songs from international hits. And once more, he first recorded the big band with which he has been bringing his concepts to the stage on rapturously received tours for many years, in order to then take the recordings apart in his own studio in Santiago de Chile, reassemble them, surgically process each track, and inject that special Coconut magic. As singers, he had available to him his front man Argenis Brito, the crooner Louis Austen (yes, the Viennese Frank Sinatra!) and the aforementioned Stephan Remmler.

Atom™ has again adopted the perspective of an alien who, from Chile, his distant orbit, perceives the world as a remote place and not as his place of origin. For this purpose, Atom™ uses the technique of mash up or culture clash: an Austrian crooner sings on a Swiss Cha-Cha-Cha (Pinball ChaCha), a Japanese, Toshiyuki Yasuda, programs the computer part on a Brazilian Bossa Nova classic (Corcovado - Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars), and this voice does a duet with Argenis Brito, a Venezuelan singer who lives in Berlin. One theme which all Señor Coconut albums share is Mambo, which is in turn an artificial product developed by Dámaso Pérez Prado. And once again we are dealing with someone living in exile: the Cuban Pérez Prado lived, worked and died in Mexico and produced for the American market. It was he who brought together stereotypes from the widest imaginable range of sources to make "Latino" marketable for the first time, leading in turn to Mambo making the crossover to jazz and turning up in popular hits in Germany in the 50s and 60s. In "La vida es llena de cables" a Latino big band arrangement clashes with Reggaeton-Rap and the Aciton sounds developed by Atom™ - Aciton is a hybrid of Acid and Reggaeton. The track "Around the World" by the French band Daft Punk provides the background for this exceptional production, it is the common thread that unifies the album: electronica which is put back on its acoustic feet, because Señor Coconut’s creative process is no one-way street.

Entitled "Around the World with Señor Coconut", the new album will be released by the following record companies:

Third-Ear (Japan) (Release date 29.04.08)
Essay Recordings in joint venture with PIAS (Europe except UK) (Release date 09.06.08)
New State Recordings (UK) (Release date 09.06.08)
Doublemoon (Turkey) (Release date 09.06.08)
National (USA) (Release date tbc)

The album contains vocal performances by Stephan Remmler (Trio), Louie Austen, Argenis Brito, Peter Rap and RoboBrazileira.

Needless to say that each release will contain slightly different tracklists. Spanish versions of "Kiss" ("Beso") and "Da Da Da" will either be released as bonus tracks or separately through iTunes.

Further Essay Recordings is planning to do a limited edition 7-inch of "Da Da Da" as well as a regular vinyl edition of the album. Louie Austen’s "Dreams are my Reality" (which was produced by Atom™ under the Señor Coconut moniker) will also be included on the album as a bonus title.
