Early 2006 two leading Dutch representatives, Monsieur Dubois and State Of Monc, initiated a new platform to establish, enpower and expand the scene they are both part of: Nu-Jazz. In the process, two other groups joined in: Flowriders and Jazzinvaders. Nu-Jazz is a style of music that crosses many borders and takes away boundaries; from jazz to jungle, trip-hop to house, dub to disco and broken beat to soul. While respecting traditions and building upon them, nu-jazz creates a new format for improvisation, beats, grooves and ensemble. By founding The Dutch Nu Jazz Movement the bands involved like to acknowledge this growing development in jazzmusic, point out its relevance and create an organization that brings Dutch Nu Jazz to a larger public in- and outside The Netherlands.
