Grant Phabao is Paris DJs' in-house producer and sound engineer, and no doubt familiar to you as France's premier reggae lord. Over nearly two decades of superb music-making, he grew to be a prime purveyor of Jamaican Soul, wether labeled "ska", "rocksteady", "reggae", etc. After releasing albums with Jamaican legends Carlton Livingston, The Lone Ranger, The Jays or The Silvertones, and remixes for the whole planet, from George Clinton to Alice Russell, from David Byrne to Shawn Lee, from Jurassic 5 to The Beta Club… he started producing African music, working with the likes of Ebo Taylor, musicians from Fela's Egypt 80, Antibalas, The Souljazz Orchestra, Brownout or Franck Biyong. With the Paris DJs label, he managed to cross the rigid boundaries of music categorization with an astonishing quantity of high-quality productions and remixes in many styles, achieving a high-order mastery in reggae, ska and afrofunk…
Ben Hito is one hell of a graphic designer, fitting marvelously Paris DJs' "international music" approach. We really want to spread his work, and notably, make a vast and eclectic collection of vinyl with him. Thanks to the people who supported Paris DJs' second crowdfunding campaign, a new, limited edition 9 tracks vinyl LP was released in 2015. Strictly limited to a 500 copies, this collection of exclusive Grant Phabao remixes and productions is 100% Paris DJs Soundsystem-approved MASSIVE HITS, with storming afrofunk instrumentals, special blends of roots reggae and hip hop, dancefloor reggae monsters, a unique and deeply funky fusion of afrofunk with hip hop verses and cinematic reggae funk!!

Grant Phabao vous est sans doute bien connu comme le premier "Reggae Lord" de France. Avec presque deux décennies de superbe productions musicales derrière lui, il est devenu un fournisseur de premier choix de soul jamaïcaine, qu'on l'appelle "ska", "rocksteady", "reggae", etc. Après avoir sorti des albums avec des légendes de Jamaïque telles que Carlton Livingston, The Lone Ranger, The Jays ou The Silvertones, et des remixes pour la terre entière, de George Clinton à Alice Russell, de David Byrne à Shawn Lee, de Jurassic 5 à The Beta Club… il a commencé à produire de la musique africaine et à travailler avec des gens comme Ebo Taylor ou Franck Biyong, des musiciens de Fela Kuti, Antibalas, The Souljazz Orchestra, Brownout, etc. Avec le label Paris DJs, il est parvenu à briser les frontières rigides des catégories musicales, avec une quantité hallucinante de productions et de remixes de haut vol, pour en définitive atteindre une maîtrise de très haut niveau en reggae, ska et afrofunk.
Ben Hito est un illustrateur incroyablement talenteux et travailleur. Son art est merveilleusement raccord avec l'approche "international music" (en Français "la sono mondiale") de Paris DJs. Nous voulons vraiment diffuser son travail, et en particulier développer une collection vaste et éclectique de sorties vinyles avec lui. Grâce à ceux qui ont soutenu la seconde campagne de financement participatif de Paris DJs, un nouveau 33 tours a pu être édité en 2015. About the Wearplay :
The music industry is evolving and Paris DJs with it.
Five years ago we started putting out digital releases, which helped us stay afloat for a bit, but soon digital sales declined, replaced by streaming, a true non-business for independent record companies such as ours.
The vinyl resurgence led us to launch crowdfunding campaigns to press records. We managed to raise money five times in a row, alas record stores are a thing of the past, and direct-to-fan sales haven't taken off. Distributors have been knocking at the door intensely, but with no financial solutions.
In our quest for innovative ways to put out quality music, we wanted to prove ourselves capable of making great products that people would want to use, again and again.
Original, creative, but satisfying products. That's how we came up with the idea of the "Paris DJs Wearplay", a clothing line of "music that you wear", with :

L'industrie de la musique évolue et Paris DJs aussi.
Il y a cinq ans nous avons commencé à publier des singles, albums et compilations au format digital, ce qui nous a aidé a garder la tête hors de l'eau pendant un petit moment. Mais les ventes de téléchargements ont rapidement décliné, replacées par le streaming, un véritable non-business for des maisons de disques indépendantes telles que la nôtre.
Le retour du vinyle nous a conduit à lancer des campagnes de financement participatif pour presser nos disques. Nous avons réussi à lever de l'argent 5 fois de suite, maheureusement les magasins de disques sont une relique du passé, et les ventes direct-to-fan n'ont jamais décollé. Les distributeurs sont venus taper à notre porte, mais dénués de solutions financières.
En permanence à la recherche de solutions innovantes pour sortir de la musique de qualité, nous voulions faire preuve de notre capacité à fabriquer des produits exceptionnels que les gens voudraient utiliser, encore et encore. Des produits originaux, créatifs et satisfaisants. C'est ainsi que nous est venue l'idée du "Paris DJs Wearplay", une ligne de vêtements de "music that you wear" (musique que vous portez), avec :
- des visuels fringuants de l'affichiste Français Ben Hito (www.benhito.com)
- une impression textile en numérique Haute Définition ou en sérigraphie par l'atelier Anarres à Paris (www.anarres.fr)
