Got a very nice surprise today as the latest 45 from Mukatsuku Records dropped at the door… and it's a scorcher once again, that'll go right away with the others 45s in my DJ bag for the vinyl set I'll be playing on june 4th with Betino's (info here)!
Who doesn't like a deep disco groove with a fat bass and chilled vocals? A-side comes from a highly sought-after and obscure modern soul 45 from Sharon Revoal (worth at least 100$ on the collector's market), released on Ellis Taylor's label from Kansas City in 1980. A midtempo gem with heavy bassline, mellow classy female vocals, elegant funky guitar riffs, smokin' sax and superb loungy keys, oozing atmosphere and sophistication. B-side dates from the early seventies, and is a very funky, soulful and intense Gospel mover by The Swan Silvertones, originally released on the Hob Is Gospel label. Mukatsuku Records dig deep once more with a sweet little 45 featuring two officially licensed stormers dripping with rarity. "Reaching For Our Star" from Sharon Revoal is a big soul monster that you may well have heard dropped in sets from Gilles Peterson, Sam Floating Points and Four Tet. Originally surfacing on the Forte Records label circa 1980, the track is fairly bossed by the low slung disco bassline and Sharon's sultry vocal delivery and will nice up any disco or funk dance. Mukatsuku make this 7" all the more delicious with the B-side presence of The Swan Silvertones jammer "If You Believe Your God Is Dead (Try Mine)" which is surely one of the funkiest gospel 45's to come out of the early 70's!!
