Afro Disco Boogie Edits Vol 7 Mukat Edits

Digging deep into forgotten boogie and disco from the past, a new volume of the 'Mukat Edits' series is always good news. This one starts with a nearly instrumental edit of 'Alone In The Dark', originally released b y Japanese boogie singstress Ann Lewis in 1979, with strings and piano evoking the heavy 'Coming Back To My Roots' tune. Hard to resist. B-side opens with an edit from 'Time Trip' by Ryuichi Sakamoto & The Kakutougi Session, some very cool jazzy boogie funk recorded in Tokyo in 1979. A crowd mover for sure. The two other tunes closing each side are less my thing by enjoyable nonetheless - I'd advise to go directly for the openers, perfect for the boogie DJ bags. Buy on Juno.co.uk

The Mukat Edit Series continues to shine light on the depth of their disco and boogie knowledge, offering up some rarities that have been nudged into a form perfect for deployment by any self respecting selector. Volume 7 commences with the hard to resist pairing of "Solo with the Lights Off" and "Venezuelan Disco Dementia" with the former's subtle caressing of strings and pianos complemented by the heavy dubs of the latter. Face down and "Hot-Too Hot!" presents more string-laden rareness with a killer vocal hook, whilst "Vengeance" highlights Mukat's edit chops, fully extending a rare 90 second library track into something that burns and burns. Full support from Gilles Peterson, Nick The Record, Red Greg, Eddie C, Sadar Bahar, Jeremy My Love Is Underground, Jacques Renault,Jimmy The Twin, Love On The Run, Faze Action.
