Gypsy Hill - Our Routes (CD, Batov Records, 2014)
London-based producers DJ Kobyashi and Herbert Newbert play a blend of balkanese, gypsy, hip hop & bass music. Their band Gypsy Hill is a 7-piece drum & brass ensemble, clearly aiming for the summer's festivals. Those guys have digested the electro-swing revival that followed Emir Kusturica's soundtracks' success. They've also been through hip hop, ska, funk, jazz and a lot of other "classic" grooves. Surf rock, Mariachi or Maghreb music aren't stranger to their recipe either. For sure their live gigs must be one hell of a party, and their long-player 'Our Routes' is a damn fun ride! Check for example the bass-heavy 'Cãciula Pã Ureche', quite unstoppable…

Gypsy Hill play an intoxicating mix of Balkan brass, Mediterranean surf rock, ska & swing. Featuring guitars, horns, tuba, a scratch DJ and a mix of live and electronic beats, Gypsy Hill effortlessly mix the traditional with a uniquely modern sound.
Producers DJ Kobayashi and Herbert Newbert have taken the project from studio to stage, gradually growing the band and honing their high-energy live hows. Their burgeoning CV includes remixes for the likes of Balkan Beat Box and Al Jawala and a special feature on Ninja Tune's acclaimed 'Ninja Jamm' app. On the latter appearing alongside electronic music royalty such as Coldcut, Mr Scruff, Bonobo and many more of the Ninja Tunes roster.
Their much anticipated debut album 'Our Routes' hit the shelves in August 2014 and the band are touring throughout the autumn and into spring 2015.
A tour history that includes some of the UK and Europe's biggest festivals (Glastonbury, Bestival, WOMAD, Sziget, Fusion, Winterthurer Musikfestwochen), Gypsy Hill are no strangers to the big stages, having played alongside some of the greats including Taraf De Haidouks.
