Grant Phabao and Carlton Livingston - Bridge Of Life

"I met Carlton through Fatta from Soul Stereo. He came to Europe to tour with The Lone Ranger as "Rub a Dud Partners". Fatta suggested "A Message to you Rudie" from Dandy Livingston and the two of them instantly agreed on covering it. I built the riddim, they voiced it: Bam! Instant hit! Recording an album was obvious from then on. One was already on the way with Lone Ranger, Carlton could just choose a few riddims and in no time we had more than an album's worth of songs. Carlton is a great singer, he can fit many types of riddims while keeping his strong style. He's always ready to lend a hand in the studio, laying backings or perfecting lines when needed." - Grant Phabao

"It was in the fall of 2004, I was on a European tour with Lone Ranger and Soul Stereo. We had one off day in Paris when Ranger suggested that we ride the Metro to Télégraphe Station to meet up with Phabao and the crew. We settled in smoking some good h*rb (which I notice over a couple of years to be always the best). Our conversation about our love of Reggae Music and all music in general was the theme. Then he started to play some works that he had done a while back with Ranger and some other artists. The sound was very unusual and innovative. After a while just sitting and shooting the breeze, he went into the studio and started to play some tracks that he had refixed. Hearing the different melodies and sounds I started to write some lyrics. In about a half hour I was in the studio putting down vocals and harmony tracks. That was the start of our collaborations as I recognized the brilliance of Phabao and the effort that he puts into his work. No song is the same they are always different and unique. Phabao has opened up my vision as a singer & songwriter. As a singer he has encouraged me to do more harmonies and be more innovated in the structure of melodies. As a songwriter the structure of his tracks as also been a big influence on my writing style. It has made me write lyrics in a more abstract way. Phabao and the T.I.M.E.C./Paris DJs crew have given me great opportunities to expose my works to a broader audience all over the world, with the inclusion of songs we have done in two films. Also the business structure that is in place leaves no stone unturned or chances. Since that first meeting we have done a vast amount of works including a album, many singles and vinyl releases. This partnership is great because of mutual respect of our talent, it has and will last the test of time." - Carlton Livingston
