Bixiga 70 - 100% 13 (7"/Digital Single, self-released, 2014 - mastered by Grant Phabao)
Brazilian afrobeat band Bixiga 70 have just self-released a new single, available on 45 or digital, mixed by Victor Rice in São Paulo and mastered by Grant Phabao at Paris DJs' studio. The group liked the mastering Phabao had done for their track in the 'We Are The Fire Inside Your Mind' compilation so they got back in touch and voilà! No english info/press release seems to be available yet but the two sides of the 7 inch are already on soundcloud, and the record is for sale at the group's website.
While their new full length will have to wait for 2015, Bixiga 70 didn't want to leave 2014 without putting out a new single - and what a tune that is!! Reminding some of the latest work from Jungle By Night or The Budos Band, this new one explores a fusion of funk, rock, latin and African music that's very tasty and in-your-face. There's also a bit of Hypnotic Brass Ensemble in there. A monster tune indeed. B-side adds a dub remix by Victor Rice, a sinister roots afrodub affair for the trippy downbeat selections. Classy. Let's hope this seven inch vinyl will reach our shores!!
