Press Release (english) :
With gold and double platinum selling albums at home and several years of hugely successful international touring, New Zealand based 8-piece band The Black Seeds have been winning over fans with their unique blend of reggae, dub, funk and soul since forming in 1997.

Being at the forefront of a South Pacific reggae/roots scene that is fast gaining international attention, The Black Seeds have carved out their reputation on the strength of their acclaimed albums and masterful live shows, gaining them massive support in New Zealand and Australia, and a fast growing international fanbase. After recently signing record deals with renowned European based labels - Sonar Kollektiv and Rough Trade NL, their latest album "Into The Dojo" will be released throughout Europe/Japan in July/August 2007. After successful tours in 2005 and 2006, the 8-piece band will return in July and August for an 18-show European album release tour.

The Black Seeds hail from Wellington - the small, coastal (and windy!) capital city of New Zealand. Fitting in with the laidback, outdoor Kiwi way of life, reggae music was warmly welcomed into our culture in the 70’s, sewing the seeds for the development of a burgeoning South Pacific reggae/roots scene, for which Wellington has been at the forefront in recent times (with Fat Freddy’s Drop, Trinity Roots etc). Fusing reggae, dub, funk and soul with a distinctive “ Pacifican ” flavour, The Black Seeds sound and style is unique, uplifting and completely full of good vibes.

The band released their highly anticipated third album "Into The Dojo" in New Zealand late last year. After spending five consecutive weeks at No. 1 in the album charts, the album has already reached double platinum sales. While still retaining the band' essential reggae/dub/funk/roots, "Into The Dojo" shows a great deal of development in the group’s sound. Song-writing duties have been shared throughout the band this time round, with Daniel Weetman joining Barnaby Weir on lead vocal duties. The result of a year-long creative process, "Into The Dojo" is The Black Seeds’ most mature and accomplished album to date.

The Black Seeds are renowned as one of Australasia’s finest and most dynamic live acts. Their legendary, upbeat shows have become a quintessential part of the New Zealand summer, where they consistently sell out large outdoor concerts and headline the country's biggest festivals. They have completed two successful European tours including a 27-show tour in September 2006 which saw the band perform across Holland, Austria, Germany, Scotland, England and Ireland, including a sell-out gig at the renowned London venue, Koko. In October 2006 the band performed successful gigs in New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.

"An entire set of high energy, pumping, thunderous bass and slick reggae grooves had a bright-eyed audience stomping and swaying rapturously as one. Returning for their encore they almost brought the house down with their amped, high- energy finale... a truly phenomenal live performance’’ - The Press, August 2006
