While the mainstream has become more and more insipid, nostalgia of the past has been quite a big thing once again this year. Alas many labels have ducked out of our pages in 2013. Now-Again, Numero Group, Daptone, Luaka Bop, Awesome Tapes From Africa, Light In The Attic and many many others have joined the ranks of labels who have been disappearing from the radar here… Thankfully some concerned few have been organizing the resistance in France, and we've picked a selection of the best reissues we've managed to get our hands (and ears) on this year, sent to us by the mighty Analog Africa, Barely Breaking Even, Mr. Bongo, Soundway, Tiger's Milk, Tramp, Tru Thoughts or Vampisoul labels. The best of Colombian music influenced by African grooves - we had been awaiting for years for someone to properly tackle this selection/theme and Analog Africa didn't nail it - they killed it.

This time focusing on some East African vibes previously only released on small-run, 45-rpm, seven inch singles. Soundway Records' selection is killer, gathering raw, catchy, funky & wild Benga, Rumba, Afrobeat and Afrofunk you've probably never heard before.

One of the great dance music compilations of the summer of 2013. Outstanding oldies from Puerto Rico from 60 years ago, when Puerto Rican combos would gather the ingredients today called Salsa Dura, the diversity of the music making it even more essential than the first volume!

This album from 1971 falls into the 'classic afro-latin funk' category, and if you don't already own it, now's the chance. Recorded in Belgium by a band of Netherlanders, you'll be surprised by how vintage this latin funk/afro soul/chicano rock masterpiece sounds!!

13. Shake-A-Leg Vol.2 - Club Night Compilation

The two German selectors are music pros with GREAT taste, there's no filler to be found here - only 74mn of pure communicative grooviness!! So, is this compilation recommended? Heavily.

With hard-hitting psychedelic Afrojazz, immersed in Highlife, Funk, Afrobeat and Jazz, this joyous, uplifting and infectiously catchy new reissue is available on heavyweight vinyl. Don't say we didn't warn you.
