After laying fairly low in 2007, JFJO have re-emerged with a new album that will blow the minds of even those use to having their minds blown by the Tulsa trio. Joining the band for this record is underground electronic music producer Tae Meyulks. Together they leaped head first into an ambient alternate universe, creating a record that will tickle corners of the mind you didn't even know you had. It's beautiful and sprawling and very much a true jazz odyssey. We can't wait for people to start hearing it.

Le premier album studio acoustique de Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey est disponible dans une superbe édition digipack avec en bonus un DVD "Live At Yoshi's" de 4 titres... Le funk-rock teinté de jazz des débuts (il y a bien longtemps, environ 10 ans, le groupe était constitué alors de 8 membres) a donc désormais fait sa mue en jazz acoustique, plus précisément en trio, piano (Brian Haas), basse (Reed Mathis) et batterie (Jason Smart). Si les noms de Charles Mingus ou de Thelonious Monk déclanchent le haussement du sourcil chez vous, c'est votre came. Pour les plus jeunes ou les plus up-to-date, on parlera de Medeski Martin & Wood (en moins funk) ou The Bad Plus (en moins punk), histoire de situer le contexte musical: jazz, fusion, post-bop, quelques beats rock et surtout beaucoup d'improvisation.

Plutôt sympa le trio de jazz Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey nous offrent un quatuor de reprises de standards jazz, en formation acoustique: Jason Smart (batterie, percussions), Reed Mathis (basse acoustique espagnole, violoncelle) et Brian Haas (piano acoustique) reprennent "Off Minor" (Thelonious Monk, 4,1 Mo 128 kbbps MP3), live au Knitting Factory à New York le 19 Octobre 2003, ainsi que "In a Sentimental Mood" (Duke Ellington, 6.6 Mo MP3), "Central Park West" (John Coltrane, 6 Mo MP3) et "Up Jumped Spring" (Freddie Hubbard, 9.5 Mo MP3), tous trois enregistrés live au Montage, à Rochester (NY) le 14 Octobre 2003. Bref c'est du trié sur le volet, tout récent tout chaud à peine sorti de l'encodeur mp3 et déjà en ligne sur leur site.
