One of the great 'concept' albums of 1970s roots reggae, "Messenger Man" is reissued by Blood and Fire with extra dub versions to all tracks. Featuring a host of top-ranking musicians - the late Jackie Mittoo and Soul Syndicate members Fully Fullwood, Tony Chin and Santa Davis, star guitarist Carl Harvey and keyboard maestro Bobby Kalphat - in the backing band, Willi delivers his unique and totally seductive visions on this long-unavailable cult classic, in much the same style as his massive hit "Armagideon Time", which was famously covered by legendary punk rockers the Clash.

Depuis 10 ans que Blood & Fire rééditent du reggae et du dub roots ils ne s'étaient jamais essayés au "riddim album". Voilà chose faite avec 20 interprétations différentes du mythique "Satta Massa Gana" de 1969 par les Abyssinians, ou plutôt 10 anciennes versions et 10 nouvelles, enregistrées pour l'occasion. C'est en effet le chanteur et membre fondateur du groupe Bernard Collins qui a contacté le label Blood & Fire Records pour sortir un riddim album, avec les 16 versions qu'il avait collecté et choisi, parmi lesquelles Bongo Herman, Big Youth, Prince Far I, Dillinger, Tommy McCook, U-Roy... Bref une bonne sélection de son 70's principalement, bien roots comme on l'aime. Le label proposa d'allonger la sauce sur deux albums, en enregistrant une petite pelletée de musiciens reggae roots d'aujourd'hui, tels Luciano, Capleton, Jah Mali, Anthony B, Dean Fraser... Et en effet la sauce prend. Que ce soit juste pour quelques-unes des versions présentes ici ou pour s'enfiler l'album en entier (c'est quand même toujours la même chanson, avec ses sax et trombone au début et à la fin qui se répète donc quasiment inlassablement...), on ne saura trop conseiller cette nouvelle référence indispensable de l'incroyable catalogue Blood & Fire Records.
